The baskets are made on Fair Trade terms directly from the women who make each basket by hand, which means there can be slight variations in size, colors and patterns that make each basket unique.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e The organic baskets are woven with straw and threads from the leaves of the Bismarck palm, which are split into thin fibers to create the perfect weaving material.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n \u003cp\u003eOur baskets are produced by women in the Thies region, approximately 122 km north of Dakar, Senegal. These women work tirelessly to provide for their families – either weaving baskets or cultivating their fields. Most villages have neither electricity nor running water, so the women have to walk up to 5 kilometers to charge their phones and fetch water, often with the help of donkeys or horses.
