Which size Senegal basket should you choose?
Start with what the basket needs to hold. It sounds simple, but it's often where the choice becomes easier.
A smaller basket can be used for toilet paper, knitting, or small items that would otherwise end up on the table. A medium-sized basket is suitable for toys, towels, pillows, or blankets. The largest models are ideal as laundry baskets or for storage in the bedroom and living room.
Many of the large baskets are available in sizes from Small to XL. The dimensions vary between models, and the handcrafted nature means that no two baskets are necessarily exactly alike. Therefore, always check the measurements on the specific product page. Also consider whether the basket should stand under a table, next to a bed, or freely in the room. Height is just as important as width.
And if in doubt, choose a slightly larger size. A spacious basket usually quickly finds something to hold.

Why are the small differences important?
We are used to products being identical. Same measurements. Same color. Same surface. But a handmade product tells a different story.
When a Senegal basket varies slightly in shape, color, or weave, you can see that a human made it. This doesn't make the basket less useful. It makes it unique. Of course, the quality must be good. Handmade should never be an excuse for poor quality. But small natural variations are part of it when a product doesn't come from a machine.
For us, fair trade is about respect for both the craft and the people behind it. Molly's Heart alone cannot solve the major problems of inequality and lack of opportunities.
