Vores Produktion
At Molly’s Heart, we create thoughtfully made interiors and lifestyle products with respect for the people behind them, the craftsmanship they represent and the materials they use.
Our mission is to offer ethically made, high-quality products that make it easier to choose with care – without compromising on design, quality or affordability.
Rooted in local communities
Our baskets are handmade in small artisan communities in Méouane, Senegal, and Bolgatanga, Ghana. We are also in the process of establishing new production partnerships in Kenya.
Méouane is a small rural town in Senegal’s Thiès Region, approximately 150 km from Dakar. Here, we work with artisan communities where traditional weaving is an important source of income alongside farming and family life. The work is rooted in close-knit communities, local knowledge and long-standing craft traditions.
Bolgatanga is located in northern Ghana, in the Upper East Region, and is widely known for its skilled basket weaving. For generations, women in the area have woven baskets by hand using locally sourced natural fibres. For many of the women we work with, weaving creates an opportunity to earn an income while working close to home and caring for their families.
What fair trade means to us
For us, fair trade is not only about paying for a finished product. It is about building long-term partnerships based on respect, transparency and fair payment for skilled work.
We work directly with artisans and small producer communities to create more stable and meaningful income opportunities. Fair payment means that the women are recognised and paid for the time, knowledge and care that goes into every handmade piece.
A reliable income can help women contribute to their household economy, pay school fees, cover healthcare costs and gain greater financial independence. The impact therefore reaches beyond the individual artisan. It can strengthen families, support children’s opportunities and contribute to more resilient local communities.
We believe that craftsmanship should be valued as skilled work – not treated as low-cost labour.
Materials chosen with care
We make conscious choices when sourcing our materials, with the aim of creating products that are both beautiful and made with consideration for people and the environment.
Many of our baskets are woven from natural fibres such as Bismark straw and hay. These materials are selected for their strength, durability and renewable qualities. Our artisans source natural fibres from trusted local suppliers who use responsible harvesting methods. This helps protect the surrounding environment and supports the continued use of these materials over time.
By working with natural fibres, the artisans preserve traditional weaving techniques while creating products that reflect the culture and craftsmanship of their communities.
In selected products, we also use recycled plastic tubes and recycled jute ropes. The recycled plastic gives post-consumer materials a new life and helps reduce reliance on virgin plastic. Jute is a renewable and biodegradable natural fibre, chosen as an alternative to more synthetic materials.
Quality in every detail
Every Molly’s Heart product is handmade. Small variations in colour, shape and weave are therefore part of each piece’s individual character.
At the same time, quality is essential to us. We work closely with our production partners on materials, colours, finishing, shape and consistency. Before products are shipped, we continuously follow up on quality and provide feedback to ensure that each piece meets our standards.
By choosing Molly’s Heart, you support traditional craftsmanship, fair trade principles and small artisan communities – while bringing meaningful design into your home.
