Our Production

Our baskets are hand-woven in small artisan communities in Méouane, Senegal, and Bolgatanga, Ghana. Here, production is based on local weaving traditions, knowledge of materials, and craftsmanship developed over generations.

We work closely with the artisans on materials, colors, shapes, and quality. The goal is products that show respect for the people behind them and for the knowledge embedded in every single basket.

Production in Méouane, Senegal

Méouane is a small town in the Thiès region of Senegal. Here, we collaborate with artisan communities where traditional basket weaving is an important source of income alongside agriculture and family life.

The work is based on close local communities, knowledge of materials, and weaving techniques that have been developed and preserved over many years.

Basket Weaving in Bolgatanga, Ghana

Bolgatanga is located in northern Ghana and is known for its skilled basketry. Women in the area have hand-woven baskets from local natural fibers for generations.

For many of the women we work with, basket weaving provides an opportunity to earn an income close to home while also caring for their families. It is a craft with practical, cultural, and economic significance.

From Materials to Finished Basket

Many of the baskets are woven from natural fibers such as Bismarck palm straw and hay. The fibers are chosen for their strength, durability, and renewable properties. The artisans source materials from local suppliers and use their experience to select, prepare, and weave them.

Selected products also incorporate recycled plastic tubes and recycled jute cords. These materials are used in a way that combines function, durability, and traditional craftsmanship.

Quality in Every Detail

Because the products are handmade, there will be slight variations in color, shape, and weave. These are not flaws. They are a natural part of the product's unique character and a visible sign of the handwork involved.

We continuously monitor materials, colors, finishes, shape, and consistency. Before products are shipped, we provide feedback to our production partners to ensure quality meets our standards.

We are also in the process of establishing new production collaborations in Kenya.
