Background: Our baskets are carefully handmade by women from the Thies region, approx. 122 km north of Dakar in Senegal. These women work hard to support their families by either weaving baskets or cultivating their fields. Many of the villages still lack basic facilities such as electricity and water, meaning the women often have to walk more than 5 kilometers to charge their phones and fetch water, often with the help of donkeys or horses. Basket weaving has long been an important source of income in addition to agriculture, helping the women earn extra money and create better living conditions for their families.
This craftsmanship is part of a proud tradition where each product reflects the hard work and dedication of these women, while supporting sustainable and fair working conditions.
