Basket with Senegal lid, Fair Trade from Senegal
Basket with Senegal lid, Fair Trade from Senegal
Beautiful handwoven baskets that can be used for laundry, wastepaper baskets, pot covers or simply as beautiful decoration.
The baskets are purchased under Fair Trade conditions directly from the women who weave them. All baskets are handmade and may therefore vary slightly in size, colors and pattern.
The traditional baskets with one or more colors are woven with a colored plastic thread, thereby creating the beautiful pattern and beautiful colors that characterize Senegal baskets. The plastic thread is made of biodegradable recycled plastic.
The organic baskets are woven with straw and threads made from the leaves of the Bismarck palm, which are split open so they can be used for weaving.
The baskets are available in a wide range of colors. Just write if you want a color that we don't have in stock.
NOTE: Please note that these baskets are made of elephant grass - and not seaweed. This means that they are moisture resistant and retain their shape.
Sizes: With Senegal lid: 20 cm + 15 cm lid high and approx. 32 cm in diameter
Our baskets are produced by a group of women from the Theis Region, approximately 122 km north of Dakar, Senegal. These women work hard to support their families. They either work on our products or work on cultivating their fields. Most of the women’s villages do not yet have electricity or water, meaning they have to walk more than 5 kilometers to charge their phones and fetch water using donkeys or horses. Weaving baskets has long been a means of earning extra money in addition to cultivating the fields.
