The beautiful damask tablecloths are woven on old jacquard looms and are woven by Syrians on the run. Being allowed to weave gives the refugees a sense of normality and it gives them economic opportunities to sustain life.
The tablecloth is 100% of locally harvested cotton with peacock and damask patterns.
The peacock can be seen in many textiles in the Middle East. It is believed that the peacock is native to India 🇮🇳 but the bird has a long history in the Middle East, originally brought by Indian traders to Babylon. The ancient Greeks believed that Peacock symbolizes immortality.
Our peacock tablecloth is full of symbol, history and impact.
Our partner-family in southeastern Turkey have been weaving and producing their own silk and cotton since the early 1900's. Having learned this skill from the Armenians in Syria, they are keeping this precious industry alive.
