All baskets are handmade and may therefore vary slightly in size, colors and pattern.
The traditional baskets are woven with a colored plastic thread, creating the beautiful pattern that characterizes Senegalese baskets. The plastic thread is made from recycled plastic.
Our baskets are made by a group of women from the Theis Region, approximately 122 km north of Dakar, Senegal. These women work hard to support their families. They spend their time either producing our products or cultivating their fields. Most of the women’s villages still lack electricity and water, meaning they have to walk more than 5 kilometers to charge their phones and fetch water using donkeys or horses. Weaving baskets has long been an additional source of income in addition to their work in the fields.
