The organic baskets are woven together with straw made from the leaves of the Bismarck palm. It is more time-consuming to weave with straw and therefore the organic baskets are slightly more expensive than those with plastic thread.
Our baskets are made by a group of women from the Theis Region, approximately 122 km north of Dakar, Senegal. These women work hard to support their families. They spend their time either producing our products or cultivating their fields. Most of the women’s villages still lack electricity and water, meaning they have to walk more than 5 kilometers to charge their phones and fetch water using donkeys or horses. Weaving baskets has long been an additional source of income in addition to their work in the fields.
