All baskets are handmade and may therefore vary slightly in size, colors and pattern.
NOTE: Please note that these baskets are made of elephant grass - and not seaweed. This means that they are moisture resistant and retain their shape.
The traditional baskets with one or more colors are woven with a colored plastic thread, thereby creating the beautiful pattern that characterizes Senegalese baskets. The plastic thread is made from recycled plastic.
Our baskets are produced by a group of women from the Theis Region, approximately 122 km north of Dakar, Senegal. These women work hard to support their families. They either work on our products or work on cultivating their fields. Most of the women's villages do not yet have electricity and water, meaning they have to walk several kilometers to charge their phones and fetch water. Weaving baskets has long been a means of earning extra money in addition to cultivating the fields.
