Brown and beige laundry basket, hand-woven with Senegal lid. Fair Trade
Beautiful handwoven baskets (Fair Trade) and from Senegal.
All baskets are handmade and may therefore vary slightly in size, color and pattern. What they all have in common is that the quality is exquisite. This means that they are very firmly woven, so that they do not fall the same or become crooked. Next, they are evenly woven so that they look beautiful and symmetrical. They are all woven from elephant grass, which means that they can withstand moisture and therefore do not mold if there are wet towels etc. in them.
Large: 58 cm high without lid, 75 cm with lid and 45 cm in diameter
Medium: 46 cm high without lid, 66 cm with lid and 35 cm in diameter

The traditional baskets are woven with a colored plastic thread and thereby the beautiful pattern that characterizes Senegal baskets appears. The plastic thread is made from biodegradable recycled plastic.
Our baskets are made by a group of women from the Theis Region, approximately 122 km north of Dakar, Senegal. These women work hard to provide for their families. They spend their time either producing our products or cultivating their fields. Most of the women's villages still lack electricity and water, meaning they have to walk more than 5 kilometers to charge their phones and fetch water using donkeys or horses. Basket weaving has long been an additional source of income in addition to their work in the fields.
