The organic baskets are woven with elephant straw and threads from the leaves of the Bismarck palm, which are divided into thin fibers to create the perfect weaving material.
Our baskets are made by women in the Thies region, approximately 122 km north of Dakar, Senegal. These women work tirelessly to support their families – either by weaving baskets or cultivating their fields. Most villages have no electricity or running water, so the women have to walk up to 5 kilometers to charge their phones and fetch water, often with the help of donkeys or horses. Weaving has been an essential source of income in addition to agriculture for generations.
