Reading Woman with Water – bronze sculpture, black dress, size 25 cm

This sculpture was created by the artist Hamed Nikiema from Burkina Faso.

The artist begins by shaping a sculpture in wax. This is covered with a mixture of clay and manure and left to dry. The mold is then fired so that the wax melts and runs out through small openings. The molten metal alloy is then poured into the mold, where it replaces the wax. Once the metal has cooled, the mold is broken to release the sculpture, and the final details are completed by hand. Every single piece is therefore completely unique.
