Seated woman with book – bronze sculpture, mint green dress, 15 cm

These elegant bronze sculptures are created by the Burkinabe artist Karim Sana.

The artist begins by shaping a sculpture in wax. This is covered with a mixture of clay and manure and allowed to dry. The mould is then fired, so that the wax melts and runs out through small openings. Afterwards, the molten metal alloy is poured into the mould, where it replaces the wax. When the metal has cooled, the mould is broken to release the sculpture, and the final details are finished by hand. Each piece is therefore completely unique.
