The country is experiencing widespread violence and insecurity due to attacks by Islamist armed groups such as Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM). Many people are therefore fleeing to neighbouring countries, including Senegal. The refugees live from "hand to mouth".
