Tightly woven from elephant grass, so the basket won't lose its shape over time. They have black leather handles. Moisture resistant. The baskets are woven by Ghanaian women under Danish Fair Trade conditions.

Most of the producers are vulnerable women who are illiterate and primarily live by selling baskets. The area where the baskets are produced, Bolgatanga in northern Ghana, is characterized by extreme poverty. Selling the baskets at fair prices helps support the women and their families.
