A Bolga basket is made of elephant grass and is the result of a long process and an ancient, traditional craft. Bolga baskets are always hand-woven and have leather handles, assembled into a handle.
The majority of producers are vulnerable women who can neither read nor write and who primarily live by selling baskets. The area where the baskets are produced, Bolgatanga in northern Ghana, is characterized by extreme poverty.
